New Kindle

Question by : The “Kindle” from Amazon.com?..?
Can someone give me a summary of the Kindle ( How it works, Costs, opinions on it and things like that)

What I Know
It costs $ 299 unless you get the better or different version that costs more. I want the $ 299 one.

There are no monthly fees

You download books? Am I right?

You can store/carry 1,500 books and download over 300,000

Can someone give me a summary of everything about the Kindle. I looked at the discription and everything at Amazon but I cant make much sense of it. Do you have to buy individual books or just download them for Free? From what I read it sounds like you buy this thing dowload books for Free(?) and you can read them on it search newspapers and magazines? Do you pay for anything after the $ 299 to actually buy the Kindle? Also the thing about the New York Times Bestsellers, It says something about $ 9.99?? Is it just those books you hve to buy? I’m confused on those parts.

Thanks! I don’t understand all the Wifi and all those other terms on how it works and everything. I’m 14 so please try and explain what those mean. I read alot, probably 7 books a month. Some days i finish a book in a day. I read the whole Twilight series in 5-6 days and i had to get the 3 books at the store during the week and not at the same time. So I read fast and alot and I think it is worth buying this instead of buying individual books that i would read once maybe twice. Can i have your opinion on if you like the kindle?

I own the Kindle 2 and I like it very much. Basically, Amazon produces this device, and it makes a lot of books become available in electronic version. There are over 340,000 Kindle books that we can buy and read on the Kindle right now, and the number of books available is keep on increasing (I remember there are only 270,000 Kindle books when I bought my Kindle a few months ago).

What you need to pay after $ 299 is the content for the Kindle, including books, or newspapers or magainzes. However, the electronic books for the Kindle is cheaper than actual books, and there are also lots of books in the public domain available for Free. If you don’t want to pay anything extra, you can just get the Free books and only read those books.

For new york times, it is now $ 13.99 monthly, much cheaper than paper edition:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26x%3D15%26ref%255F%3Dnb%255Fss%26y%3D18%26field-keywords%3D%26url%3Dnode%253D165389011&tag=moreinfo-po-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

I like my Kindle because I can buy books at a cheaper rate compared to actual books, and I can replace all heavy books with this handy device. I can bring it wherever I want to, so I can utilize my time whenever I’ve some free time (like I’m waiting for friends, shuttle bus, or whatever).

I’m an avid reader and at the beginning I missed a bit on the feeling of reading books. But now I love to hold the Kindle, the e-ink work very well, it is really like reading books… Now I often read with the Kindle for several hours but I don’t feel tired… And now I prefer to keep and organize all my books on my Kindle rather than organizing all the physical books, it is really much more convenient.

I remember I read these reviews when I decided to get my Kindle. Guess they will help you making up the decision:

http://www.speedreaderxreview.com/amazon-kindle-20-review-speed-readers-complete-thoughts-on-this-hot-new-device

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR2DUM7S4XW06QN%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ASIN%3DB00154JDAI%26nodeID%3D%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Fpr%255Fcmt&tag=moreinfo-po-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

Finally, Amazon has announced a price slash on the Kindle 2, and it is now selling $ 60 cheaper than the price I got my Kindle… So it is a good chance now if you want to get it.

Hope it helps icon smile The Kindle from Amazon.com?..?

Answer by Mike P
There is a good simple article here about how does the Kindle work:

http://ezinearticles.com/?How-Does-the-Kindle-2-Work?&id=2003315

So no monthly fee, and it provides free internet access. You only need to pay for the content you want to buy.

If you are thinking of buying a Kindle, I’ll say get it and you won’t regret. Since Amazon provide books for the Kindle cheaper than actual books, it has saved me quite a lot of money. Right now I’ve read over 10 books with the Kindle, and I really like the idea that I can bring and store all the books with the handy device. Besides, it uses the e-ink technology, so even I read with the device for long hours, I don’t feel tired. My only complaint is the white case, right now all the Kindles are in white color… I think it will be cool if I can have a black or deep blue color Kindle icon wink The Kindle from Amazon.com?..?

I’ll suggest you to read this review too, it outlines quite a lot of benefits of the Kindle:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR9J54TZ1541OR%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Frdp%255Fperm&tag=more_info-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

Hope this helps.

I recommend you to read this review. It explains quite a lot about the Kindle, and is also the best review on the Kindle that I’ve ever read:

I would like one but too pricey. I like the kindle because it has Free wireless access to blogs and wikipedia. The sony one is smaller but lacks a keyboard for entering comments.

Answer by The Guru
The Kindle has some pretty cool features. I like the fact that it connects to a cellular network, so you can download books from just about anywhere (not just wifi spots). If I could afford one, I’d definitely get it just to play with it. They’re on backorder though if you look at the product page.

From the Author: 5 Things I Love About the Kindle Fire

From its stunning color touch-screen to its beautifully simple and easy interface, the Kindle Fire is one of the hottest new tablets to hit the market. The Kindle Fire may be pint-sized, but it’s a total powerhouse packed with features including web browsing, games, apps, videos, magazines, newspapers, music, e-books, cloud storage, e-mail, and more. Learn all about the cool things your Kindle Fire can do with help from longtime For Dummies author Nancy C. Muir and these five Fire features that are sure to fuel your love of tablets and technology.

1. Content, Content, Content!
Kindle Fire is intended to be a device you use to consume media, meaning that you can play/read all kinds of music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, e-books, magazines, and newspapers. Amazon has built up a huge amount of content, from print and audio books (1,000,000 titles and counting in the Kindle Store) to movies and TV shows (100,000), music (17 million songs), and hundreds of your favorite magazines. Count on these numbers to have risen by the time you read this! Amazon continues to rack up deals with media groups such as Fox Broadcasting and PBS on a regular basis to make even more content available.

You can also find various kinds of content in the Amazon store using the Store button in Video and Music libraries that you access through the Kindle Fire Home screen. Tap Newsstand to shop for periodicals; Music to shop for songs and albums; tap Video to go directly to the Amazon Video store; and tap Apps to shop the Amazon Appstore for Android. All the content you purchase is backed up on the Amazon Cloud. The ability to quickly and easily access all this content and play it back or display it on your Kindle Fire is probably the main reason why this great little device could give iPad a run for its money.

2. Free Cloud Storage
Although Kindle Fire has less storage space (8 GB) than some competing tablets, that amount of storage will probably work just fine for you. That’s because when you own a Kindle Fire you get Free, unlimited cloud storage for all digital content purchased from Amazon (but not content that you copy onto Kindle Fire from your computer). This means that books, movies, music, and apps are held online for you to stream or download at any time, rather than being stored on your Kindle Fire. This storage means that you don’t use up your Kindle Fire memory. As long as you have a Wi-Fi connection you can stream content from Amazon’s Cloud at any time.

Tip:If you’ll be away from a Wi-Fi connection for a bit, you can download content like a TV show or movie to your Kindle Fire to watch while you’re without wireless access. When you’re done watching and back within range of a Wi-Fi network, you can remove the content to Free up space on your device. The content is still available in the cloud and can be downloaded or streamed again anytime you like.

3. The Size
Sporting a 7-inch display and weighing only 14.6 ounces, Kindle Fire is lighter and smaller than the iPad and other popular tablets on the market. That smaller, lighter form factor makes the Fire easier to hold with one hand. In addition, Kindle Fire is that much easier to slip into a tote bag or laptop case. You don’t really need to prop it up with a fancy stand because you can easily hold it with one hand and tap the screen to get things done with the other.

The Price
Kindle Fire costs much less than the lowest priced iPad: 9 versus 9. At the top end, you’ll pay 9 for a 64 GB, 3G iPad. Granted Kindle Fire doesn’t offer a 3G option, and has no camera, and though it’s inexpensive, it’s a very well made device that offers just about all the functionality of the competition in the booming tablet market. How does Amazon offer a quality device at this low price? Quite simply they’re making a bet that they’ll make up for what they lose on the cost of the hardware with content sales. And with all the content available, you, the consumer, are the big winner in the end!

5. Amazon Prime
Finally, Kindle Fire comes with one free month of Amazon Prime. Now I’ve been an Amazon Prime Member for years so I can tell you firsthand that this service is one of the best deals out there. During your free month, Prime will allow you to get lots of perks such as free two-day shipping on thousands of items sold through Amazon.

If you decide to pick up the service after your free month, it will cost you US a year. So just what do you get for your money?

Prime includes a ton of Prime Instant Video, movies and TV shows that you can watch absolutely free. And, these shows aren’t the dregs either: there’s some pretty awesome entertainment included in Prime Instant Video. You also get free two-day shipping on millions of items and overnight shipping for only .99. Not every item offered on Amazon is eligible for Prime, but enough are that it’s a wonderful savings in time and money over the course of a year. In fact, you can probably pay for your membership with the free shipping on the first two or three orders you place, and getting your Prime-eligible stuff in only two days every time is super sweet.
